Line Extension Summary
These charges may apply to any type of account and are determined by the engineering department. Typical examples include (but are not limited to):
New House – There is no charge to the member to set the first two poles needed, but additional poles on private property are $500 each. A driveway must be established and the foundation started on the house before SMEC will begin any construction work.
Upgrading Service
- 60 amp to 100 amp to 200 amp underground – the charge is $225
- 200 amp overhead to 200 amp or larger underground – the charge is $300
- 60 amp or 100 amp to 200 amp overhead - there is no charge
Underground Service - There is a fee of $200 for underground service to a new house or permanent building for the first 200 feet. Any footage over 200 feet requires engineering approval plus an additional charge of $2 per foot.
There is a fee of $350 for underground to H-Structures for the first 200 feet. Any footage over 200 feet requires engineering approval plus an additional charge of $2 per foot.
Mobile Homes, Barns, Shops, Campers, Travel Trailers, etc. - There is a charge of $100 each for the first two poles, the third pole and additional poles thereafter are $500 each on private property. A $25 service charge will be included on the first month’s electric bill if only a service is required to the member-owned meter pole.
Temporary Service - The member is required to set their own pole according to the requirements listed in the diagram shown under the Service Entrance Wiring section.
A $25 temporary service charge will be billed to the first month’s electric bill.
Commercial Power - In all cases of commercial service, load information must be furnished prior to design and construction of the project. A $25.00 membership and a deposit must be paid in the company’s name. The deposit will be determined by our consumer accounts department based on the load information provided.
Three-Phase Service - Please contact the SMEC engineering department for requirements and charges.
Subdivisions – The member must furnish a county approved plat of the project showing streets, right-of-way and names, permanent lot lines and numbers, plus a utility easement. Contact SMEC engineering department for additional information and charges.
Camper or Trailer Park – The member must furnish a county approved plat of the project. Contact SMEC engineering department for additional information and charges.
Line Relocation – The member is responsible for the total cost of the line relocation project.
